A group of people are walking along a street holding signs and banners, including one that reads 'No to Racism.' They appear to be participating in a peaceful protest or march. Trees line the street, and several cars are parked on the roadside. The atmosphere is bright and sunny, suggesting a daytime event. Several participants are wearing hats, and the group is diverse in age and attire.

Voter Engagement

JustNation aims to clarify our complex political and economic systems. We believe that understanding the history of racial injustice including slavery, Jim Crow laws, and redlining—is crucial. These historical acts intentionally created systems that still affect communities of color and contribute to lower voter turnout today. By demystifying how these past injustices shape our present, we empower individuals, especially people of color and infrequent voters, with the knowledge to see the profound impact of their participation. When we grasp these connections, we move from disengagement to active involvement for achieving racial justice and a truly equitable society. JustNation plans to move thousands of non-voters and infrequent voters to vote. Partner with JustNation in fostering an informed and actively engaged electorate, poised to drive substantive societal transformation.

A group of people are gathered outdoors in an urban setting, holding signs that advocate against racism, sexism, and violence. They are wearing masks and standing in front of a statue. A video camera is focused on the group, and another person appears to be capturing the scene with a handheld device. Skyscrapers form the backdrop, and a pink flag with a symbol is visible.

Policy Development for Racial Justice

Our commitment to racial justice is at the forefront of our work, and policy development is a cornerstone of how we enact change across critical sectors. We translate our core principles into actionable strategies in education, housing, taxation, environmental justice, voter participation, healthcare, employment, criminal justice reform, and union representation. This involves not only crafting innovative policies but also actively engaging in organizing and advocacy to ensure their implementation. One of our key arms in this endeavor is The Peoples Brain Trust, which is being developed as a group of primarily Black academic scholars and leaders who will develop incisive racial justice policies to address these issues. Furthermore, we conduct thorough racial justice audits and develop racial justice budgets to expose systemic inequities and reallocate resources equitably. Our aim is to propose and champion legislation that dismantles discriminatory practices and builds a more just and equitable society for all.

Coalition Building

JustNation is dedicated to building broad-based coalitions across racial and economic lines to tackle various racial justice issues. We work on initiatives such as fair school funding, criminal justice reform, affordable housing, fair and just taxation, and gun violence prevention, alongside a variety of federal justice issues. For example, Just Nation is a key part of the 57 Block Coalition, a group of 70 organizations across Philadelphia committed to reducing gun violence. This coalition has successfully advocated for $60 million in city and state funding for gun violence prevention efforts. Additionally, Just Nation is developing the Coalition to Defend Democracy, a response to federal budget cuts impacting Medicaid, SNAP benefits, immigration, and other crucial federal programs. This coalition currently comprises over 20 organizations throughout Philadelphia. We firmly believe that coalition building is essential for achieving racial justice and transforming our communities.
